March was full of some great projects as well such as remastering The Figgs 2004 album “Slow Charm” for it’s first ever vinyl release coming out soon on Good Land Records.   I also mastered an EP for the Smoking Popes for a Complete Control Session release on Side One Dummy recordings.  Some other mastering projects include ZETI, Tammy Borden, The Midwestern Charm, Tangled Up In Blue, Sugar Stems, and CONTROL.

Well, the documentary Undefeated won an Oscar for best documentary.  Most of the music for this film was recorded at Mystery Room last year and written by Dan McMahon and Miles Nielsen.

I did a bunch of mastering projects to start of 2012 including projects for The Hussy, Allen Cote, The Turdles, Archie Powell & The Exports, PUTA MADRE BROTHERS, The Piniellas, Borderlines, Derek Dunn, .357 String Band, A Familiar Voice, Fresh Cut Collective, Wasted Islands.  I remastered an album that I mixed a few years ago by a band called The Accelerators from the Netherlands, it should be reissued on vinyl and CD again soon.

I also finished mixing the Dan Vapid & The Cheats album that I started recording last fall.  It’s all mastered up and ready for release when the time is right.  Speaking of Dan Vapid, I also mastered a split 7″ coming out on Merman Records of the Jetty Boys and Dan Vapid & The Cheats.  I even got to go over to Lucky Lacquers and watch Dave cut it to vinyl.  Check out this photo:

I mixed and mastered an album for Ikarus Down which is the band of former Mystery Room engineer Jon Ferrer.  Also in the mixing department, I mixed some songs for what I think will be the next Hue Blanc’s Joyless Ones album.

December mastering projects included Great Lake Drifters, Dumbell, Dangerfield, Simon Chainsaw, Sugar Stems, The Morning Birds and Ill Disctracxion for Dope Folks Records.  I also mixed the Archie Powell & the Exports album that was recorded at the old Mystery Room back in September.

In November I was busy mastering projects for Bad Love Experience, Sat Nite Duets, Ted Fitzkirkpatrick, Blessed Feathers, The Sensationalists, Catch Kid, Sleeping in the Aviary, Down On Maddy and Harvest Creative Services.  I also remastered the classic “Psychic Voodoo Mind Control” by the Catholic Boys, and a double LP of hard to find and unreleased stuff by the Mistreaters, both records just came out on Dusty Medical Records.

I also wrapped up the recording of the new Dan Vapid and the Cheats album that I am currently mixing right now.

Somewhere in there I also found time to play bass for a couple Cory Chisel shows in Rockford and Chicago, as well as for an in-store performance with Tommy Stinson down at Reckless Records in Chicago.

Recent mastering projects include a cassette release EP for CONTROL from Madison.  I also mastered projects for Minor Characters, Haunted Heads, Masked Intruder, Matt Monsoor, Annie B & the Vagabond Co., Elvis Thao, Old American Junk, Silver Dapple, Rectifier, and a remaster of an original cassette release by the Woolridge Brothers.  I also mastered a few 7″ singles for Ramma Lamma and and Bazooka for Dusty Medical Records.

Also, with the help of Dan McMahon and Jon Ferrer I’ve been doing a few recording projects with Archie Powell & the Exports and Dan Vapid and the Cheats, both from Chicago.  Both projects are just about ready to be mixed.  I also mixed and mastered 3 new songs by They Stay Dead from Edmond, Oklahoma.

I also played a pair of shows with with Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons up at Cranky Pat’s in Neenah, WI.  While I was up there I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with Jason Verstegen who wrote this nice piece for the Fox Valley Scene newspaper.

Also, Trapper Schoepp & the Shades have been working hard with Dan McMahon at the Mystery Room recording their newest album.  I will be mixing the album in late August.

I did a quick week long tour in the deep South playing bass with the Paul Collins Beat.

I also mixed and mastered a great record by Nathan Mathes called “Roselawn” which sound be available soon.

I also spent some time playing bass with Cory Chisel at Churchill Downs in Louisville KY, Bonnaroo music festival outside of Nashville, Cranky Pat’s in Neenah WI, SummerFest in Milwaukee, WI and Riverfront Rendezvous in Steven’s Point WI.

I spent a few weeks in Italy working with Bad (love) Experience at Sam Studio. The sessions went well and I’m looking forward to putting the finishing touches on it before mixing and mastering this summer.

I received a WAMI award for producer of the year, 2011.

I finally got the Tenement album mixed, one of my favorite punk rock albums I’ve worked on….it should be out by summertime on vinyl and CD.

I played a run of shows in Texas with Screeching Weasel, the final show at SXSW ended in quite a scene, ready about it HERE.

I mixed and mastered an album with Dan McMahon for Daniel and the Lion entitled “Sweet Teeth”, you can check it out HERE.

I mixed and mastered a 3 song demo for They Stay Dead which was produced by Mike Kennerty.

Galynne and Mark spent a few days in early March recording some overdubs with Dan McMahon for their newest album.

The Snowbirds album is now mixed and mastered and should be available sometime this spring/summer.

I mastered the new Screeching Weasel album “First World Manifesto” which will be released March 15th on Fat Wreck Chords.

I also mastered projects for Whitney Mann, Dead Luke, the Midwest Beat, Compact Moroboshi, Drugs Dragons, Matt Monsoor, .357 String Band, Sloane Peterson, Simon Chainsaw, Baywood Park, Jonathan Burks, Ando Ehlers, Charlie & the Cynics, Canyons of Static, IfIHadAHifi, Jeremiah Nelson, The Wildbirds, The Hollands!, Crappy Dracula, the Last Rhino and Pascal’s Balloon.

I also spent some more time at Blast House Studios in Madison, WI with Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts. We recorded the basic tracks for a few more songs, overdubbing will resume in the spring for what will be their next full-length album.

Daniel & the Lion have been in doing more recording with Dan McMahon. The record is pretty much done being recorded and Dan and I will start mixing this thing soon.

I did manage to find time to master some projects for The Delta Routine, So-So Radio, Book Club, and Miracle Drugs.

I also spent a few more days with Cory Chisel & Adriel Harris doing some more demo songs for the upcoming Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons album.

I also had time to fit in mastering projects for The Parlor Room, Donoma, The Ratcliffs, Lucky Diaz, The Regardless, Lover! & Big Leaf Linden.
